Walking Flowers

You say you haven't seen any walking flowers? Well, I haven't either, except perhaps Egyptian onions, sometimes known as walking onions. But I'm not talking of flowers walking, but of me seeing flowers while I'm walking.

Last entry we saw some of the flags around my neighborhood. Since there are many flowers in bloom this time of year, tonight I'd like to post pictures of the flowers I saw while Kuro and I were out walking.

I know the names of some of them. Many I don't know except as familiar faces. I invite you to walk along with Kuro and me and vicariously enjoy my neighborhood garden.

My Country's Flag

One of my friends mentioned the other day that there weren't many flags displayed in his neighborhood of Seattle. I told him that there were several in my neighborhood but I wasn't sure how many. This evening while walking my little dog, Kuro, I took pictures of some of those flags that were displayed fairly close to the street where I could take a picture without going onto the homeowner's property.

There was a moderate breeze from the north so the flags were often waving over the porches and steps of my neighbors houses. It was a stirring sight to see flags of our country flying in Seattle.

I remember when we first moved to this house in 1975. Those were different times but even during that turbulent time in the life of our nation I saw a few flags in my neighborhood. I'm happy to report that there are now many more.

Our walking course tonight covered twenty blocks. We saw maybe 15 flags of which I took 7 pictures. I took pictures from the sidewalk so some aren't such pretty shots but they give an idea of how people display the flag of our part of Seattle.

Some of the flags are new and some are old but they all are displayed with pride. I didn't see any ragged flags nor did I see any that were tangled in nearby bushes.

Old Glory looks good when flown with respect from the front of a house. Some people have flagpoles with lights so they can fly the flag 24 hours per day That looks good too but I like to see those flags on front porches.

It gives me a strong sense of pride when I see my neighbors displaying our flag. I wish I could see more of my country's flags flying when I walk around my neighborhood.
