An hour or so later we docked in Ketchikan. The Emerald Princess was tied up just north of us and before long a Carnival ship slipped in between us and a Silversea ship tied up off our stern.
Approaching the cruise ship dock in Ketchikan |
The Creek Street boardwalk was about the same with the historical houses in the old red light district converted to money-takers of other kinds.
I did see some new signs, reflecting our more permissive society reading "Creek Street where fish and fishermen came upstream to spawn".
On previous visits I never had a chance, but today we had time to spare so we visited the Tongass Museum. I spent a couple hours checking out artifacts of local history.
Most of the exhibits concentrated on the fishing and logging industries which were the life blood of early Ketchikan. If you visit be sure to look for the collection of old springboards used by loggers in the days before chainsaws.
Back aboard ship I walked around the deck for awhile, worked on email/blog and then went to dinner.
Another tough day of cruising.
Great pictures and update. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bill. It's been tough posting entries. WiFi is spotty and in Anchorage they throttled me way down after I transferred somewhere photos to my laptop. Here in Denali WiFi is only available in a central shopping area which is a long walk. Tried using data but I'm roaming on the AT&T network so that's restricted also. Bummer. Will try sitting outside in the central area and updating.
