Day 4 Lang Son to Cao Bang (cont)

Leaving the border crossing we rode through beautiful countryside reminiscent of old Chinese scroll paintings until we came to a Buddhist temple.

After climbing an even one hundred steps we toured the temple, donated some money, lit incense sticks and prayed to the gods for safe travels.

On down the road we stopped at a veneer mill but since it was closed we just walked around the yard admiring the color, grain and patterns of the veneer sheets placed outside to dry.

Stopped for lunch in a small town then back on the mountain roads with mud and some potholes that looked deep enough to swallow a small vehicle.

Next stop was a minority hill tribe village and toured one extended family's homestead, but that will be the final section of today's post.
